Many people may not know this about me, but I was actually petitioned by the Upper Room Presents as a Gospel singer here in the US. Ron Strand, the head of the organization, is like a father to me, and Kathy is my spiritual mother. I’m sharing this story to encourage other artists who, like me, are always on the go and meeting people of influence. It’s important to remember that in these situations, you may be offered things by the world, but you have the power to stand firm in your values and beliefs.
I once had a singing gig in LA where I met an older lady who was quite taken with my performance. She was persistent in taking my number, telling me how much she loved my singing and how she would refer me to her wealthy friends. As we exchanged more text messages, she eventually asked if I would be her boyfriend and even offered to buy me a car and let me stay in her house. I asked her if she knew where I lived, to which she replied “where?”. With confidence, I told her that I lived in Nellie Gail Ranch with my American parents in a much bigger house than hers and that I already had my own truck. I didn’t mean to brag, but I tried to jokingly brush her off and make it clear that I wasn’t interested in her propsal. Needless to say, she never bothered me again. Ha ha!
As artists, we encounter numerous challenges, but we must never lose faith in ourselves. We must hold onto our self-worth and embrace our true identity. We are more than capable of achieving greatness and making a significant impact in this world. Let us remember that we are destined for greater heights and holy works through Christ.
